TV personality Des O'Connor has defended being a dad at 80 by saying his seven-year-old son Adam keeps him young.
The veteran star told Hello! that Adam gave him reason to stay healthy and in shape, and denied he was 'selfish' to have fathered another child in the autumn of his life.
Des, who is married to his fourth wife Jodie, 43, told the magazine:
"I want to be with him for as long as I can, and that's another reason to keep myself in good shape. I don't have a strict health regime but I do think you have to take care of yourself. I've never drunk heavily but I drink even less now."
He said he does not do anything 'too strenuous' in the way of exercise, but tries to keep himself in 'good nick'.
He also said that his age gap relationship did not bother him, asserting there is 'no time limit on love'.
Des was previously married to Phyllis Gill with whom he had a daughter, Karen O'Connor in 1959, then to Gillian Vaughan, with whom he had two daughters, TJ O'Connor and Samantha O'Connor, and to Jay Rufer, a union which produced daughter Kristina. He married Jodie in 2007.
What do you think of Des's views on older dads? Do you agree, or do you feel sorry for his seven-year-old son having an octogenarian parent?
