Paul Weller Back At The Top Of The Album Charts With 'Sonik Kicks' - Military Wives Second

Modfather Shouts To The Top... Of The Chart

Veteran mod rocker Paul Weller has stormed to the top of the album charts, the Official Charts Company said.

The former Jam frontman's latest offering, Sonik Kicks, went straight to number one after being released last Monday.

The Modfather proved he is still going strong despite 40 years in the business.

It is his eleventh album since launching a solo career in the early 1990s and features appearances from Britpop stalwarts Noel Gallagher and Graham Coxon.

Weller took the top spot from the Military Wives Choir, whose In My Dreams release was number one last week.

The wives, who topped the Christmas singles chart with their song Wherever You Are under the guidance of mentor Gareth Malone who put them together for a BBC2 series, fell back to third place this week.

Ahead of them was French DJ David Guetta's fifth studio album, Nothing But The Beat, which came in at second place in the album chart, up from ninth last week.

Meanwhile Coldplay's Mylo Xyloto re-entered the top 10 at number seven after languishing in twelfth place last week.

In the singles chart, Gotye was knocked off the top spot by Katy Perry, whose latest single, Part Of Me, went straight in at number one. It is the third number one single for the American pop princess, who split from comic Russell Brand last year after 14 months of marriage.

Australian-Belgian singer-songwriter Goyte's smash hit Somebody That I Used To Know fell back to third place this week after five weeks at number one. The single featuring Kimbra has brought him runaway success around the world, becoming the first artist of the year to cross the 500,000 unit sales mark in Britain.
