A 14-year-old girl has stunned her parents, teachers and school friends by writing a science fiction novel!
Mia Foley Doyle, a Year Nine pupil at a school in Oxford, had been secretly writing her 475 page story, The Rebel Forces, and is now planning on turning it into an e-book.
Mia, who attends Oxford Spires Academy, East Oxford, only revealed the details of her weighty tome when a member of school staff asked pupils if anyone had done anything 'cool'. To the shock of her pals and teachers, Mia revealed she had written a novel!
Speaking to her local newspaper, Mia said she'd had the idea for the book for ages, but was spurred on when she heard about NaNoWriMo - National Novel Writing Month - which challenges writers to produce 50,000 words during the month of November. She said: "I thought I would do it then, because it was motivating."
Mia confessed she often stayed up writing until 4am after finishing off her homework, and sometimes carried on ALL THROUGH the night, eventually reaching her target word count in just 25 days.
She said: "My mum thought I was ill, because I kept falling asleep in the day, but she was happy afterwards when she knew why. I kept my schoolwork at a good level and I slept a lot afterwards."
"It was really fun to write and it would be nice to have it as a real book one day, but a Kindle book is good too. It felt really good to finish."
Mia is now planning to write a sequel.
What an amazing story. HOW hard working and determined is this young lady?!
