Rory McIlroy Overtakes Luke Donald In Golf's World Rankings Without Playing

Winning Without Swinging - McIlroy Number One Again

Rory McIlroy has regained his world number one spot... without swinging a golf club.

Luke Donald will surrender his top berth to the Northern Irishman on Monday after he finished joint 37th in the RBC Heritage in the South Carolina.

The Englishman needed a top-eight finish to stay ahead of last year's US Open winner on the west coast course.

McIlroy couldn't hide his delight:

But a second successive level-par round of 71 scuppered hopes of him retaining top spot, as he ended the tournament on two over.

Sweden's Carl Pettersson eventually the tournament, which Donald lost in a playoff to Brandt Snedeker last year.

McIlroy, 22, briefly overtook Donald at the top of the rankings last month to reach number one for the first time in his career.
