Every so often we read about someone younger than us doing exceedingly well and we start to worry about the fact that WE haven't become an international pop sensation (yet), or won a Nobel prize (yet), or been employed as a model and designer by a big corporation (yet).
Mostly it's someone hovering only a few years younger - Adele, Emma Watson, Lawrence Bragg (he won the 1915 Nobel prize for physics aged 25) - but today it's Gisele Bundchen's 5-year-old niece Duda who has been signed as model AND designer for Brazilian childrenswear brand, Brandili Mundi. We might as well go back to bed.
Duda is, quite frankly, adorable, as is this dress from the collection. Image: Brandili Mundi
Forbes (depressingly) reports that Duda, who has been spokesmodeling for the company for a year already, is now to design a solo collection for Brandili Mundi which will launch in July of this year.
Our first thoughts? If that collection isn't a selection of handprints, pictures of four-windowed houses with smoking chimneys, misshapen cats, and glitter glue, we're going out on a limb and suggesting a 'ghost' designer may be involved.
Forbes was quick to answer our worries, going on to quote Germano Costa - commercial and marketing director of BM's parent company - as saying this about Duda's collection: "She told us about her preferences on prints, cuts and details, and based on the briefing we received from her we came up with a collaborative collection. The pieces were all approved by Duda, whose romantic inspiration will no doubt catch girls' eyes."
What do you think? Five years old and already a fashion designer? She's going to be on so many "Ones to watch" lists...
Oh, and (our own age-related jealousy aside) we think the collection is very much the sort of thing we'd have like to wear as kids. Maybe there's something to be said for getting your target market involved in the creation of your line after all!
