Novak Djokovic Wins At Monte Carlos Masters Hours After Grandfather's Death (VIDEO)

Djokovic Wins Hours After Grandfather Dies

Novak Djokovic beat Alexandr Dolgopolov at the Monte Carlo Masters just hours after his grandfather passed away.

The Serb was victorious against his Ukrainian opponent as he turned the match around to win 2-6 6-1 6-4 in the third round.

He was earlier videoed by French cable channel Canal + crying and burying his head in a towel as he departed a practise court when informed of his grandparent's death.

The Times' Neil Harman foreshadowed a spirited display:

Djokovic lived with his grandfather, Vladimir, in Belgrade when Serbia was bombed for 78 days and nights in 1999.

With the win, the world number one has advanced to the quarter-finals, where he will face Dutchman Robin Haase.
