Manchester United Manager Sir Alex Ferguson Admits Interest In Lille Playmaker Eden Hazard

Fergie Hits Hazard Lights For Belgian Eden

Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted Manchester United are interested in Lille star Eden Hazard.

The 21-year-old Belgian international is being courted by a number of top European clubs, and Ferguson watched Hazard when Lille faced Lyon on 10 March.

The Scot told French radio station RMC Sport: "I came to watch Lille play Lyon and followed Hazard of course, along with other players.

"He is a very good player who has many qualities. He is particularly fast over the first 10 yards."

Hazard scores against Lyon in his teens:

Hazard has scored 16 in 33 matches this season and made his international debut at the age of 17.

United failed to recruit a replacement for Paul Scholes last year in a summer dominated by the Wesley Sneijder saga. The Dutchman ended up remaining with Internazionale and Ferguson also missed out on Samir Nasri, who chose signed for Manchester City from Arsenal.

A week after Ferguson watched Hazard in person, City manager Roberto Mancini crossed the Channel to scout the playmaker, who can also play on the wing.

It has been rumoured Ferguson is also monitoring Hazard's team-mate Mathieu Debuchy, Lilles' 26-year-old right-back who has recently broken into the French national side.
