The Smiths fans will be disappointed after Johnny Marr denied the band will be reforming.
The rumour mill has been pumping pretty hard today amidst hints that front man Morrissey and guitarist Johnny Marr planned to reunite.
Johnny Marr responded by posting the following statement on his Facebook page: The rumour of the Smiths reunion is untrue. It's not happening.
Hundreds of comments followed.
A highly-placed source also denied that The Smiths are getting back together, but that hasn’t stopped the story exploding over Twitter.
Tongues started waggling back in February when Marr told NME that The Smiths would reform on certain conditions:
Speaking about his relationship with Morrissey he continued: "I don't not speak to him, because that implies a certain standoff or whatever.
"He's doing his thing and I'm doing mine, and we go through periods of time when we're in communication and at times when we're not. I'm not sure he wants to communicate, so I'll just carry on doing what I'm doing, and live my life and be a musician."
Reactions to rumours have been mixed, and many have taken to Twitter to express how they feel.
