FA Cup Final Week: Blackpool's Sir Stanley Terrorises Bolton In The Matthews Final (VIDEO)

WATCH: Stanley Gives Bolton The Runaround In The Matthews Final

Poor Stan Mortensen. He scored a hat-trick in one of the most memorable ever FA Cup finals, and yet Blackpool's 1953 victory over Bolton Wanderers is forever known as the Matthews Final, in recognition of Stanley.

A winners' medal would have compensated, as well as his prolific goalscoring ratio for England (23 goals from 25 caps), but it remains remarkable he was overawed by a team-mate who did not get on the scoresheet.

It is 60 years ago to the day since 100,000 attendants witnessed the Tangerines' finest hour in an all-Lancashire final under the Twin Towers in one of the most iconic Wembley events.

For Matthews, who inspired Blackpool from 3-1 down, it was third time lucky. The outside right had ended up a loser in two previous finals, against Manchester United in 1948 and Newcastle United in 1951.

Watch Stanley swagger past the Trotters to the soundtrack of Kenneth Wolstenholme in the above video.
