As miracle baby stories go, this one takes some beating. A couple who unsuccessfully tried for a baby for more than 10 years are now expecting FOUR babies – after the woman and her surrogate both became pregnant with twins.

Misty and Brian Baker revealed their incredible story to an American TV station.

They said they were desperate to have kids and had had two session of IVF, which drained them financially, physically and emotionally.

But when they were on the brink of giving up, Misty's best friend stepped in.

Amber Pluckebaum, from Indiana, told the IndyChannel: "I want her to know what it's like to hold her own baby, and that's really the root of what got me even thinking this."

When Amber and her husband Brian offered to act as a surrogate, Misty, from Seattle, said: "It just felt so right and natural."

Last October, Amber was implanted with embryos created by Misty and Brian. She became pregnant with two girls, Madison and Amber.

Then by an astonishing coincidence, Misty fell pregnant with twins, a boy and a girl, who will be named Connor and Hope.

The women felt "just complete and utter shock," Amber said. "The doctor was as shocked as we were."

The mums-to-be live too far apart to share their pregnancies together, but regularly Skype.

Brian plans on travelling to Amber for the birth if his wife has already given birth to their first twins. The women are both due in June but doctors do not expect them to reach full term.

WOW! Imagine having to cope with four babies at once!
