Transformers Extra Gets $18.5m After Injury

A woman seriously injured on the set of Transformers: Dark of the Moonhas settled for $18.5m in damages.

Gabriella Cedillo, then 24, suffered significant brain damage when a stunt went badly wrong during an action sequence in the city of Hammond, near Chicago, on 1 September 2010.

She was one of 80 extras brought in to appear in the background of the sequence and was driving her own car, a 2006 Toyota, when a cable snapped during filming, crashing through her windshield and hitting her head.

After the accident, Cedillo was airlifted to a nearby hospital where she underwent emergency brain surgery. She lost "about a third of the top of her head," according to her lawyer, and is unable to remember the accident.

Directed by Michael Bay and produced by Steven Spielberg, Transformers: Dark of the Moon was released in 2011 and starred Shia LaBeouf, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, and John Turturro.

In the troubled production, English model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley replaced Megan Fox as the lead female.
