Katy Brand may already be a well-known comedian and actor - but with your help, she could also be a published novelist.
Brand is currently writing her first book, Brenda Monk is Funny - a novel about the weird, wonderful and often dark world that inhabits the comedy circuit. But whether her novel gets published or not depends on it receiving enough pledges on the crowd-funded publishing website Unbound. "I have always wanted to write a novel about comedy, maybe even several novels," she says. "So here I am, just a girl, standing in front of an internet, asking it to pay."
So how does it work? Well, in its own words, Unbound - whose successes so far include Mrs Stephen Fry's How To Have An Almost Perfect Marriage - "puts the power of publishing in the hands of authors and readers". Writers like Katy Brand pitch their book ideas to the public - and if you're one of the people who backs a project before it reaches its funding target, you get your name printed in every copy and behind-the-scenes access to the author’s online 'shed'. In addition, Brand’s offering everything from a limited first edition hardback copy (for £20) to a personal ‘Comedy Aunt’ masterclass (for £2,500) - via tickets to the launch party, a night out at a comedy club and more.
You can watch Brand's pitch video above - and if you like the sound of her novel idea (as it were), check out her page on the Unbound website to find out how to be part of the Brenda Monk is Funny sensation...
