Pop princess Katy Perry said it was "awesome" to return to London for the European premiere of her 3D film, Katy Perry: Part Of Me.

Katy Perry's romance with England has survived her split from Russell Brand

The 27-year-old singer braved the chill and rain in a swan-like Marchesa dress and Jimmy Choo heels on the candy-coloured carpet filled with life-sized sweet treats in London's Leicester Square.

"This is kind of awesome. It's freezing but it's so lovely to be here," she said.

Perry, whose divorce from comic Russell Brand is set to be finalised this month, added: "This premiere is the most mental for sure. I love the English - I have a long romance with them."

She took time to pose for photos and sign autographs for the hundreds of fans who waited hours to meet her.

Katy Perry credited her fans for her being in London in "this ridiculous outfit"

"Thank you for supporting my weirdness the whole way through. I wouldn't be here in this ridiculous outfit on this pink carpet without you all," she said.

The warts-and-all documentary film follows Perry as she embarks on her year-long California Dreams tour, and features scenes showing the breakdown of her marriage with Brand.

Yet the singer, who was born Katheryn Hudson, admits there are only a few things she would tweak.

"I'm pretty happy and proud of all the things I have accomplished last year," she explained.

"Some of the unflattering shots are not exciting especially when you see them in 3D. Acne and zits in 3D is never fun."
