Michael Fassbender is to star in and produce a film based on the video game franchise Assassin's Creed, reports Variety.
The game, about a bartender who learns that he is a descendant of famous assassins after being kidnapped by the Knights Templar, has sold more than 30 million units.

Fassbender, who recently starred in Shame and Ridley Scott's Prometheus, will co-produce the film project with his DMC Film partner Conor McCaughan and Ubisoft Motion Pictures.
