Laurent Koscielny Signs New Long-Term Contract With Arsenal

Koscielny Signs New Deal

Laurent Koscielny has signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal.

The 26-year-old was one of the Gunners' outstanding performers last season as he improved on a nervous debut campaign.

Signed from Lorient for £9.7m, he has played 85 times for the club and scored six goals in the process.

Koscielny told the club website: "I'm delighted to have reached agreement with the Club. I have had a fantastic time here and look forward to an exciting future with Arsenal."

Arsène Wenger hailed Koscielny as "outstanding" and described his development as "absolutely exceptional". "Laurent is a top-class player and I am very pleased he has decided to commit his future to the club," the Frenchman added.

Koscielny was sent off on his Arsenal debut at Anfield in August 2010 during a testing first term in the Premier League as he struggled to acclimatise to its demands.

His mistake in the 2011 League Cup final also led to Obafemi Martins' 90th minute winner for Birmingham City, as Arsenal's trophy drought extend.

However he excelled, even in the absence of the more experienced Thomas Vermaelen, to emerge as one of the league's best defenders in 2011/12.
