Juve Coach Banned And Fined Over Match-Fixing Scandal

Antonio Conte, manager of Italian Serie A winners Juventus, has been banned three months and fined €200,000 over the footballing nation's Calcioscommese match-fixing scandal.

The former Juve midfielder, who led the club to their first Scudetto since 2006 this year, has allegedly accepted a plea bargain rather than risk a heavier punishment.

Conte, who turned 43 on Tuesday, is alleged to have had knowledge of an attempt to fix Siena matches against Novara and Albinoleffe, but failed to report them.

Capped 35 times by Italy, Conte had denied the claims made by Siena player Stefano Carobbio, but has now accepted a shorter sentence.

He could be miss out on 10 Serie A matches and three in Champions League group stage games for the Bianconeri.

Italian football has previously been blighted by the Totonero and Calicopoli match-fixing scandals in 1980 and 2006 respectively.
