French Superstar Rushed To Hospital

French rocker Johnny Hallyday has been rushed to hospital suffering from a severe form of bronchitis.

Johnny Hallyday is a legend in his native France, celebrated for his enduring rock and roll lifestyle

The musician was flown by helicopter to a hospital in Pointe-a-Pitre on the French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe from neighbouring island of Saint Barthelemy on Saturday, according to France's TF1 TV channel.

His producer Gilbert Coullier told Sipa news agency that the French entertainer famed for his Elvis-like style and gravelly voice had been kept in hospital as "a precautionary measure".

The 69-year-old singer, who was on holiday, suffered an unusually fast heartbeat and was last reported to be receiving treatment in intensive care.

It appears the star is already on the mend, with officials at the clinic making arrangements to transfer Hallyday out of the intensive care unit.

Hallyday's son David has taken to Twitter.com to assure fans his father will be fine.

He tweeted, "The news is good and that reassures us enormously."

Hallyday fell gravely ill and checked into hospital several times in 2009 after a back operation in Paris, France left him in a critical condition. Last year he took legal action against a surgeon to determine whether the initial procedure was botched.
