'Explosive' is a regularly used adjective in football, but it took on its noun meaning during Al-Ahli Saudi Arabia and Sepahan Iran's encounter when a firecracker disrupted play and came close to seriously injuring a player.
Adel Kolahkaj's first thought seemed to be that the object was harmless debris thrown from the stands. Fortunately however he threw the firecracker away just in time before it exploded.
The hostile environment compelled the referee and his officials to run away from the scene as the game was stopped.
