One Direction 'Take Me Home' To Become Fastest-Selling Album Of The Year?

Fastest-Selling Album Of The Year?

Pin-ups One Direction are on target to achieve the fastest-selling album of the year as 'Take Me Home' looks unstoppable in the race for this week's number one.

The group are outselling their nearest chart contender Rod Stewart by three to one with their second album which has sold 94,000 copies in the two days since it went on sale on Monday.

And the quintet's album is on track to beat Mumford And Sons to the fastest-seller accolade by selling 5,000 more copies than the folk-rock band did at this stage during their first week on sale for 'Babel'.

One Direction - who this week announced they were working on a 3D movie - would need to shift more than 158,000 copies by the end of the week to be 2012's fastest mover.

When their debut album Up All Night was released in December they were held off the top of the chart by Rihanna's 'Talk That Talk', but Stewart's album Merry Christmas Baby looks unlikely to be an obstacle.

The latest Rolling Stones greatest hits package, Grrr!, is set to chart at number three, according to midweek sales figures from the Official Charts Company.

Green Day are on course to be number four with current chart-topper Robbie Williams expected to slide to number five with his release 'Take The Crown'.

In the singles chart newcomer Gabrielle Aplin is on course to go to number five after her cover of Frankie Goes To Hollywood's 'The Power Of Love' was featured in the John Lewis Christmas ad campaign.

The new ad - created once again by film-maker Dougal Wilson, who has made videos for Coldplay, Bat For Lashes and Will Young - sees a snowman struggling through the wilds to buy a Christmas present.

Bruno Mars's 'Locked Out Of Heaven' and Little Mix's 'DNA' are battling to top the singles chart on Sunday.
