A chemical leak at Trafford Park Industrial Estate in Manchester has been described as a 'major incident' by Greater Manchester Police.
Large parts of Trafford Park are closed and as many as 15 fire engines have been sent to deal with the chemical, which is thought to be hydrochloric acid. No one is thought to have been injured in the spill and police have said no one is in immediate danger.
However police have advised Trafford Park residents to stay indoors with their windows and doors closed.
Superintendent Chris Ullah from Greater Manchester Police said: “Emergency services are working at the scene to control the leak and motorists are being asked to avoid the area.
“We will keep the public updated but would ask people around the Trafford Park area to stay indoors for the time being as a precautionary measure."
A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “At this present time we are dealing with a major incident at Chemtura Manufacturing UK Ltd on Tenax Road in Trafford Park.”
