In a performance surely worthy of an Oscar before he opens his mouth, Cooper - yes, he of the blue eyes, the A-list girlfriends, the thinking woman's Matthew McConaughey (before HE went all serious) - plays Pat, a man with nothing to his name except a stint in a mental institution, and his old room back at his parents' house.

Enter Jennifer Lawrence as that girl 'with problems of her own' - in a cynical but heartwarming rom-com that has so far enchanted the critics, with performances from Robert De Niro and Jacki Weaver.
