'EastEnders' Shona McGarty, Aka Whitney Dean, Recording First Pop Song

'EastEnders' Star Hits The Recording Studio

'EastEnders' star Shona McGarty is recording her first pop song.

The Sun reported that the actress, who plays wildchild Whitney Dean in the soap, has been given studio time by the manager of Florence And The Machine.

Shona, 21, who sang a cover of Sam Cooke's 'A Change Is Gonna Come' on BBC's Children In Need, told the newspaper: "I'm always writing and singing my own songs so I am going into the studio to record some of them."

The actress, who recently split from boyfriend and former 'EastEnders' star Matt Lapinskas, added: "It isn't anything official, they are just for my own personal use. I have no plans to leave 'EastEnders'."

If Shona released a single, she'd be following in the footsteps of Martine McCutcheon and Sid Owen, who had a crack at pop careers on the back of the soap.

Shona and Matt split during 'Dancing On Ice' amid rumours that Matt had grown close to his skating partner Brianne Delcourt, but the pair insisted their relationship is platonic.
