Katy Perry Reveals Her 'Mom Thanks God Every Day' For Divorce To Russell Brand (VIDEO)

'My Mom Thanks God Every Day For My Divorce'

Katy Perry has said her pastor mum thanks God every day for her divorce from Russell Brand.

The Firework singer told The Sun her religious parents Keith and Mary Hudson were thankful for her split from British comedian Russell.

She said: "I thank God every day for having made us all the same way and I pray for anyone who fights for freedom of speech.

"I'm pro-gay marriage and want equality between genders. My mom thanks God every day for my divorce."

Katy and Russell were married in a ceremony in India in October 2010 but split just 14 months later.

Recently Katy referred to their split as the elephant in the room and said: "It's a very tiny elephant... It's like a little Tchotchke now."

Tchotchke is a Jewish term meaning a small worthless trinket or knick knack with little or no purpose.

Russell also made a joke about the marriage in a radio interview: "That marriage was shaky from the get-go, before I'd even got off the elephant... Let me tell you a thing about marriage. Marriage is a bond that can last up to 14 months... This is a sacred 14-month arrangement. Begins on an elephant. Ends in a newspaper."

Katy told The Sun about her strict upbringing by her pastor parents.

She said: "Growing up, I wasn't allowed to listen to non-religious music. Madonna, my idol, was considered worse than the devil."
