As a parent who lives near a busy road with lots of side streets branching off it, I spend a great deal of time lecturing my young children to look both ways.
But after watching this truly shocking video, I'm tempted to just show it to them so that they can see the consequences for themselves of not looking left and right.
The film, which appears on the Liveleak.com website, is shot from the driver's point of view.
As he or she motors at a gentle speed at what appears to be the wrong way down a one-way street, a mother and two children suddenly appear from between parked cars and then – BAM! – the car hits the youngsters, bouncing them off the bonnet and sending them flying down the road.
It's the best – and the most terrifying – road safety film I've ever seen, even if that wasn't its intention.
Amazingly the children only suffered scratches and bruises from their terrifying ordeal which took place in Russia.
The little girl gets to her feet unsteadily as the boy, wearing a patterned hooded sweatshirt, turns around to greet his anxious mother who is running towards the pair.
Then the trio stand in shock in the middle of the road as anxious bystanders rush to help them.
We're just glad they weren't more seriously hurt – and hope they will look both ways in future. It's a hard way to learn the lesson.
