Beauty And The Bride: Hair Care

Deciding how to wear your hair on your wedding day is tough enough without having to worry about looking after your locks at the same time. Unfortunately the ultra glossy, healthy hair that every bride wants doesn't happen overnight. This is where hair care comes in.

As Luca Collina, Senior Stylist at John Frieda, explains, "Preparing the hair is very important to achieve maximum shine and suppleness and therefore a conditioning treatment is vital. Especially as many weddings take place during or just after the summer months the hair tends to be dry and damaged. A deep conditioning treatment will restore the hair".

From masks to oils to serums, there's not exactly a shortage of products to choose from. Many hair treatments are made with dry, damaged hair in mind, but even if you've never gone near hair dye or ghds in your life, lighter conditioning options are still worthwhile. Plus, they can make your hair smell amazing.

Don't be put off by the price, either. Yes, a hair mask will cost more than your average bottle of shampoo, but a little goes a long way. Many of the more intense treatments only need to be applied once a week, while other oils and serums can be spritzed onto wet hair after washing.

And if you're worried that using oil-based products will make your hair look greasy? "As long as serums and oils are used correctly they will not make the hair greasy", Collina told us. "They must be applied to soaking wet hair and combed through the lengths of the hair to distribute the evenly and allow the ingredients to penetrate all the hair, this will also prevent any build of product that can often lead to grease in hair".

So, in a nutshell - find a formula that suits your hair type (do you prefer creams or oils?) and begin your quest for the shiniest hair ever. Here are a few of our favourite treatments to help your hair below:
