Diver Death Off Norfolk Coast Sparks Police Investigation

Diver Death Sparks Police Investigation

Police have launched an investigation after a diver died off the Norfolk coast.

The man was airlifted from the scene at 3.30pm yesterday to James Paget Hospital at Gorleston, near Lowestoft but had already died.

Norfolk Police said a second diver was also taken to hospital but was expected to be discharged last night.

Officers attended Hamilton Docks in Lowestoft to meet the boat the two divers were on.

The force said: "Initially it appears there were seven people on board the boat at the time of the incident and this was a recreational trip, rather than an industrial dive, that had set off from the town this morning.

"The diver that died is not thought to be local and, as is standard procedure, his death is currently being treated as unexplained.

"Police have been working with the coastguard and liaising with the Health & Safety Executive and an investigation is under way."
