Two lanes of the M62 in Cheshire were shut this morning after a man fell from a motorway bridge and was killed by a lorry.

Police were called to a report a man had fallen from a bridge on the motorway at 2.45am on Wednesday.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: "Officers went to the scene where a man had fallen from a bridge and collided with a lorry.

"Tragically the man, aged 30, from the Warrington area, died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed."

The eastbound carriageway of the M62 towards Manchester was closed between junctions 10 and 11 following the incident near the Croft interchange in Warrington.

The Highways Agency was opening lanes two and three but one lane will remain closed, police said.

The incident caused tailbacks and long delays on the motorway and surrounding roads.
