'Smart Glasses' Can Translate Foreign Text Automatically

A new prototype wearable computer is able to translate foreign text automatically, and project the translation on the page.

The glasses by NTT Docomo, a Japanese telecoms giant, were unveiled at the Ceatec 2013 consumer electronics show.

While just an early concept for a product which it says won't be ready until 2020, they are an intriguing vision of where similar ideas - including Google's 'Glass' and others - might lead in the near future.

The glasses are able to project the translated version of the text - whether a menu, or even a magazine or book - in place of the original version.

It is so far able to translate Japanese, English, Chinese and Korean languages, and can also turn flatscreens into effective touchscreens by tracking your hand movements.

Our sister tech site Engadget was on hand to take a closer look - see what they thought, above.
