Projection Piano Trainer Merges 'Rock Band' With Real Life (VIDEO)

VIDEO: 'Guitar Hero' For Real Life Pianos

We've already got a real-life Guitar Hero - so why not a real-life Piano Hero, too?

The Projected Instrument Augmentation System (PIANO) is the work of researchers at the University of Ulm in Germany. It uses a system similar to that seen in games like Rocksmith and Rockband, in which notes travel down a timeline towards the player, indicating when and how they should be played. But instead of a TV screen, it uses a projector hoisted about the piano to project the upcoming notes.

The aim is to merge the simplicity and ease of learning seen in music games, with the physical reality of playing a piano. Take a look at how it works, below, and read the full story over at New Scientist.
