A little girl of 10 has beaten 5000 other entrants to be crowned one of the UK's top linguists after wowing judges with her ability to speak TEN languages!
Sonia Yang easily fought off the competition to win the regional Junior Language Challenge title and will now take on linguists from the rest of the country in the finals of the competition on Friday.
Sonia, who was born in Taiwan, is fluent in English, Chinese and Japanese among other languages, and stunned her teacher when she learned Ugandan in a matter of weeks - saying it was 'easier' than learning English!
Sonia said: "Luganda was easier for me to learn than for an English person, because some of the words are similar to Taiwanese and it gets easier with each language you try out."
English tops the list as Sonia's favourite language though - because, she says, 'people can understand you!'
The little girl's deputy head teacher, Heather Burnett at Greenbank Preparatory School in Cheadle Hulme, Gtr Manchester, said: "Sonia is a bright and hard-working girl. She's definitely a star."
Amazing! TEN languages at the age of 10... surely she puts most adults to shame?
