If you're not frantically finishing off the Christmas shopping or travelling home for the festive break, here's what's on offer on the box tonight...

Gary Barlow: Journey to Afghanistan - 9pm, ITV

Fresh from the latest run of 'X Factor', Gary Barlow ditches the suits and bright lights to visit our troops in Afghanistan.

His two-day trip to Helmand Province for ITV shows the Take That singer meeting the servicemen and women who will be celebrating Christmas miles from home.

Pitching up at Camp Bastion, Gary puts together a band from the base’s 1,000 troops for a night of morale-boosting music, including his own hits and favourites like He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother by the Hollies.

Things won't run as smoothly as he's used too though, as we're swiftly reminded that this is still a warzone.

Heston's Great British Food - 9pm, Channel 4

If your thoughts have already turned to the food you're set to devour on Christmas day (whose haven't?), then tonight's offering from Heston Blumenthal should whet your appetite even further.

Exploring a festive favourite in the last episode of his series, Heston will examine the history of the classic British pudding.

Not to put anyone off, but in the 1600s the creation of one involved stuffing the ingredients into an animal's intestine. Mmm...
