Describe your cooking style in three words
Adventurous, colourful and experimental
The weirdest thing I've ever eaten is...
An unmarked taster in a food hall in a Japanese department store. It was brown and meaty but tasted pretty bad. I'm still not sure what it was. Possibly dog food..
In my cupboard you will always find...
Flour, dried beans and spices. I am nothing without my spices.
What would you cook for the Queen?
If I were ever invited to cook for the Queen I would like to give her something that was a little surprising but that would make her smile - something that looks familiar but tastes brand new, like a Victoria sponge with flavours of lemongrass, coconut and ginger or a tonka bean panna cotta with hibiscus syrup.
I would tell parents of fussy eaters...
To relax and try not to worry. Children often go through phases of fussiness with food and often it is nothing to do with the food but rather an attempt to show independence. Make the food available but don't turn the dinner table into a battleground. And lead by example - your child won't eat their greens if you don't!
My guilty food pleasure is...
I don't really have any. If I want it, I'll have it and not feel guilty about it at all. And I'm not a food snob; sometimes a takeaway is the only thing that will hit the spot!
Most memorable food experience...
Perhaps my first momo (a type of dumpling). I was alone in that backstreet cafe in Kathmandu. They were delicious and I went back there for dinner the next two nights. You never forget your first momo!
For my last meal I would eat...
Probably dim sum. I'm a bit of a dumpling fanatic and I love the range of sweet and savoury flavours and delicious dipping sauces. I would have a tangy lemon tart for pud.
I would never, ever eat...
Properly prepared I reckon I would be game to try most things. Maybe don't tell me what it is until after I've tried it though!
When I'm home alone I cook...
Eggs. I love the Lebanese dish Shakshuka (eggs poached in tomato sauce). Dipping bread into soft egg yolks always feels like a real luxury.
If I had to eat one thing for the rest of my life it would be...
Not sure I could cope with that. I don't like to cook the same thing twice because I get bored easily and I feel as though I am missing out. Maybe butternut squash; it's a pretty versatile little thing and can be cooked lots of different ways.
My kitchen is always...
Occupied. By me. And noisy, I'm always tuned in to the radio or an audio book.
Number one on my foodies bucket list is...
El Celler de Can Roca, a restaurant in Spain. Their pastry chef was just named best pastry chef in the world.
My must have kitchen gadget is...
For my kingdom its a Thermomix!
