'Coronation Street': Julie Walters Not Making Appearance... But 'Would Be Great In The Future If The Right Role Came Up'

'No Plans For Julie To Join 'Corrie' At The Moment'

Coronation Street’ bosses have denied rumours that Julie Walters will be making an arrival on the cobbles in the near future.

A news story in the Sunday Mirror this weekend suggested that Julie could soon be making her debut appearance on ‘Corrie’, with a source telling the newspaper: “Julie's appearance has been on the cards for quite a while. It's been a matter of finding the right role for her.”

However, while soap fans began to look forward to seeing Julie cropping up in the Rovers Return, it seems their hopes have already been dashed as ‘Corrie’ producers were quick to deny the reports.

A spokesperson for the soap confirmed: “There are no plans at the moment for her to join the show.”

That said, viewers who want to see Julie in ‘Corrie’ in the future may well still have a glimmer of hope after all, as the spokesperson went on to say: “Julie is a fantastic actress, so it would be great to have her on board in the future if the right role came up and if she had time in her busy work schedule.”

Meanwhile, Julie - who has won eight Bafta awards and was made a CBE in 2008 - has never been shy about her love of ‘Coronation Street’ in the past, having said as far back as 2007: “'Corrie' was the very first thing I watched. That's why it's my favourite. I wonder if they would ask me?”

Three years later she told The Sun: “I'd love a little something in ‘Corrie’. Someone once asked if it was true I was going to play Audrey's sister and I thought, 'What a good idea', but nothing came of that.”

One familiar face ‘Corrie’ viewers can look forward to seeing in the show later this year is Wendi Peters, who will be reprising her role as Cilla Battersby-Brown for a six week comeback stint in October.
