After initial reports that Mesut Ozil had donated his €300,000 World Cup winnings to the people of Gaza proved false, it turns out that the Arsenal midfielder has still made a noble gesture to those less fortunate.
Ozil used his Facebook page to reveal that before the World Cup he had paid for surgery for 11 Brazilian children and then after Germany's victory in the final he increased that to 23 - one for each member of the German squad.

"This is my personal thank-you for the hospitality of the people of Brazil," the 25-year-old added.
The Arsenal player's announcement followed the Gaza story on Wednesday which was flatly denied by his representative, Roland Eitel, who said the claim was "not true".
