Transgender Parents: Mum Used To Be A Man, And Dad Was Born A Woman

Bianca and Nick Bowser and their two boys may look like an average family, but mum used to be dad, and dad was originally mum (and gave birth to their sons).

Bianca, 32, was born a boy called Jason and transitioned to live as a woman 11 years ago, while Nick, 27, was born a girl called Nicole and has lived as a man for the past seven years.

The transgender couple, who live in Kentucky, U.S., still both have their original sex organs because they can't afford reconstructive surgery.

But they insist their children, Kai, three, and Pax, one, will be fine when they tell them as their upbringing has been a loving, supportive, secure and 'normal' one.

Bianca told The Daily Record: "I don't worry about how they will react. We will not treat it as a 'bad' thing. And young kids are accepting and non-judgmental."

Bianca has had breast augmentation and laser hair-removal, while Nick takes testosterone to change his appearance and had his breasts removed.

After going through a pregnancy that was 'not the norm', Nick eventually gave birth by Caesarean section.

He said: "It cut out part of the very female process of giving birth."

Bianca admitted she felt a stab of envy at the bond Nick might be developing with the boys while carrying them.

But Nick said it was actually a struggle. He said: "For me even the births, having them taken out of me, did not emotionally affect me. It took weeks for me to build an attachment."

When Kai was born, medical staff assumed they were a lesbian couple. And the reaction when Bianca tried to sign in the box for 'father' was crushing.

She said: "They didn't believe it until they had seen the paperwork. I had to fight and it did upset me."

But despite the documentation, Bianca has never felt anything but a mum.

She said: "Nick is their dad. It's not that I do more maternal things – we share everything as parents – but the kids call me mum and Nick dad."

The pair say they won't have any more children, but only because the two they already have are a handful.

Bianca said: "It's exhausting. But we love raising children.

"Having them is what I always wanted. I just didn't dream I would find anyone to do it with me."
