A 'friendless' boy who said he had no one with whom to celebrate his 11th birthday has now got nearly TWO MILLION friends after his mum's Facebook appeal went viral.
The boy, known only as Colin, has a disorder similar to Asperger's syndrome, which affects his social skills and ability to make friends.
His mum Jennifer, from Richland, Michigan, asked him if he wanted a birthday party but was heartbroken when he told her he had no friends to invite.
So she took to Facebook in an attempt to make him feel special on his big day, launching a page called Colin Is Eleven.
And now Colin has more friends than some of the world's most famous celebrities.
Jennifer said: "I created this page for my amazing, wonderful, challenging son who is about to turn 11 on March 9. Because of Colin's disabilities, social skills are not easy for him, and he often acts out in school, and the other kids don't like him.
"So when I asked him if he wanted a party for his birthday, he said there wasn't a point because he has no friends. He eats lunch alone in the office everyday because no one will let him sit with them, and rather than force someone to be unhappy with his presence, he sits alone in the office.
"I thought, if I could create a page where people could send him positive thoughts and encouraging words, that would be better than any birthday party."
At the moment, Colin is blissfully unaware of his new-found popularity, but his family plan to show him the Facebook page on the morning of his birthday – and they also plan on filming his reaction to the thousands of messages of support he has received.
At the last count, Colin's Facebook page had attracted 1.8 million 'Likes' - and we're sure it will soar even higher after you've read this article!
