Police have stepped up patrols around a children's park after a gunman threatened children playing there.
The BBC reports that a man brandishing a replica weapon approached children and made threats towards them at a Nottinghamshire recreation ground before running off.
The police were called and attended the scene at the Sconce Hills Park in Newark at around 5.30pm on Thursday.
A man of 31 was later arrested on suspicion of possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear or violence.
The police said the children were unhurt after the incident, but were left frightened.
"This was understandably a frightening experience for the children, and subsequently their parents," police spokeswoman Inspector Deb Regan said.
"We have stepped up patrols in the area to provide reassurance. These will continue into the weekend."
The arrested man remains in police custody.
