DIY Beauty: How To Make A Rose And Avocado Body Lotion

Finding brilliant, natural skincare products that suit your skin type can be laborious and expensive. The easiest solution to this problem? Make your own.

Yes, you'll probably need a bit of guidance, but guess what? There's a book for that.

Cook, Brew and Blend Your Own Herbs has been written by the experts at Neal's Yard Remedies. It features healthy recipes and DIY beauty product how tos, aimed at targeting specific skincare dilemmas.

This particular recipe uses moisturising cocoa and shea nut butters with vitamin-rich avocado oil to nourish skin, boost suppleness and banish dry patches. The rose fragrance also makes it especially amazing.

Want to give this body lotion a try? Here's how to make your own. Do remember if you have very sensitive skin, test any skin product on a small area first to check it doesn't provoke a reaction.

You will need (to make 40g):

1⁄2 tsp cocoa butter and shea nut butter mix

1 tsp avocado oil

2 tbsp rose petal infusion

2 tbsp emulsifying wax

2 drops rose essential oil

3 drops geranium essential oil

1. Melt the cocoa butter and shea nut butter with the avocado oil in a bowl set over a saucepan of boiling water (bain-marie).

2. Gently heat the rose petal infusion and emulsifying wax in a small saucepan until the wax has completely dissolved in the infusion. Slowly add the infusion to the oil mixture, whisking it together for about 10 seconds.

3. When the mixture has cooled down, add the oils. Store in a sterilized glass jar with a tight-fitting lid, and use within three months.
