A mum playing outside with her eight-year-old and baby daughters had the most disgusting shock of her life – when their home was showered with human waste from a passing aeroplane.
Emma Gilfillan-Giannakos said she and her girls, Sierra and 20-month-old Lexi, had no idea what was happening when a smelly brown liquid fell from the sky and splattered all over the patio and swimming pool of the family's home, 12 miles from Toronto and Canada's Pearson International Airport.
Emma explained: "I had no idea what it was. I thought maybe a rainstorm, but it only lasted a second or two.
"I stuck a finger in the water and I smelled it. It was poo."
Fortunately Emma and her daughters were all undercover when the the falling faeces hit. But their pet dog wasn't so lucky and got showered in the stinky mess.
The family has been forced to shell out £3,000 to replace the water in their pool and have their patio thoroughly cleaned.
Emma and her husband Kris reported the incident to transport bosses, who are investigating the possibility the poo leaked from a landing plane.
Normally jets empty their toilets at special airport facilities, but transport Canada spokeswoman Maryse Durette claims it's possible a valve malfunction caused the onboard sewage tank to empty over the Giannakos house.
She said: "If this happens, the liquid seeping from valves freezes and adheres to the outside of the aircraft when the aircraft is flying at high altitudes.
"As the aircraft starts its descent and the atmosphere gets warmer, the ice will start to melt and pieces will detach themselves from the aircraft."
