Mad Men star January Jones has hit out at critics of single parenting and said that it is a 'joy'.
January, who has never publicly named the father of her 16-month-old son Xander, told Glamour magazine that she did not want to be pitied for raising her child alone.
"People keep saying, 'Oh poor you, being a single mum'. But I don't want to be pitied. I can do anything I want to. I have time for everything I had time for before," she said.
January, who plays Betty Draper in the advertising-agency based drama series, said that the arrival of her son added another 'amazing' facet to her life.
But as much as she enjoys bringing up her son on her own, the proud single mum does not rule out finding a long term partner, and despite previously claiming she would never date another actor, has now relaxed her view.
"There was a time in my life where I said I would never date another actor. But it's hard to meet people outside of my job," she admits. "In life you tend to date the people around you."
