Breaking news! The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, is distantly related to Elle and Dakota Fanning.
Researchers at Ancestry.com traced Kate and the Fanning sisters' roots back seven centuries and found the trio are all descendants of King Edward III who ruled England from 1327 to 1377.
"Generation after generation, the lines we looked at pieced back directly to King Edward III proving that Elle [and Dakota are] direct descendants of royalty," Michelle Ercanbrack, a family historian at the website said. "You can consider her a long-lost princess. This connection is so unique and rare."
Soooo, if our sums are correct that makes the Fannings and K-Middy, seventh cousins? Or eighth? Fifteenth? Er, some sort of distant cousins.
However, this isn't the first time Duchess Kate has been dubiously linked to other famous faces in the US. Back in 2011, rumour had it she was a descendant of the first American president George Washington, which subsequently linked her to chat show host Ellen DeGeneres.
On top of this, she's also related to Madonna's ex husband Guy Ritchie.
If we did enough digging we're sure we'd discover we too are distantly related to Kate... Or is that just wishful thinking?
The totally random news comes as a German newspaper decided to publish pics of the young royal's bare bum online - a decision which saw the entire internet up in arms, and left many wondering why Kate would wear such tiny knickers with such a billowy skirt.
