Kate Winslet has revealed the reason why her baby son has his rather unusual name. It's because she met Bear Blaze's dad Ned Rocknroll during a house fire!
The actress told American chat show host Ellen DeGeneres that she was staying on Necker Island, which is owned by Ned's dad billionaire dad Richard Branson, where a fire broke out.
She recalled: "Bear's second name is Blaze because my husband and I met in a house fire basically.
"The house burned down and we survived. But we wanted something of the fire and so Blaze was the name that we came up with. Bear Blaze."
The pair struck up a relationship after the fire in August 2011, which saw Kate rescue Branson's mother Eve from the blaze in the early hours of the morning.
They married in December 2012 and baby Bear was born on December 7 a year later. Kate already has two children - 13-year-old daughter Mia by her first husband Jim Threapleton and son Joe, 10, by ex-husband Sam Mendes.
Kate told Ellen: "We were thinking about names during the pregnancy. When I was pregnant with Mia and when I was pregnant with Joe I didn't name them before they came out because I always felt like I just have to see them and see who they're going to be.
"But of course, this time around there's Mia and Joe and the whole pregnancy is about what are we going to call the baby. So it was really lovely actually they were very much included and we settled on Bear quite early on.
"A friend of mine when I was younger was nicknamed Bear and I just had always really loved it. And he was very much a bear. He was everyone's shoulder to cry on he was a big bear hug, he was a great figure in my life and I just had always remembered him and so that's where it came from."
Ellen also quizzed Kate on whether Bear had taken her husband's bizarre surname - Richard Branson's nephew was born Ned Abel Smith but later changed his name to Rocknroll.
Kate said: "People who know Ned they know he's very much about irony and living life and having fun so he changed it to Rocknroll. He did do it before he met me."
Ellen asked: "Would you have objected to that"
Kate replied: "No. I have to say that, don't I?" before adding that Bear's last name is Winslet.
The actress was fresh from appearing at a Hollywood Walk Of Fame ceremony to be awarded her own Hollywood star – hours after Los Angeles was hit by a 4.4 magnitude earthquake.
And she revealed she had been pumping breast milk when the quake hit.
She laughed: "I made for a door frame with a breast pump in my hand."
It was Kate's first public appearance since she had baby Bear, though she left him at home because she thought the trans-Atlantic flight would be too much for him to, er, bear!
