Mac's New Topcoats Are Like Makeup For Nails

As many beauty junkies will know, Mac is the place go when it comes to finding clever makeup products. The brand's latest launch is just more proof of this.

Mac has collaborated with manicurist Marian Newman to create Nail Transformations - the first six polishes in the brand's new nail lacquer collection, Studio.

On first glance, the neutral shades look like a pretty range of pearly top coats - but as Newman told us, these polishes will "transform your nails in the most simple way possible."

"I didn't want to just do another range of colour," Newman revealed to us ahead of the Transformations launch.

"Instead, this is more in keeping with what Mac is about - fun, creativity and all the clever stuff."

The "clever stuff"? A single layer of any one of these polishes will completely revamp your nails, whether it's applied on a naked nail or over one of your cherished shades.

There's Texturize - a clear leather-effect topcoat, Highlight - a sheer blue pearl transformer, three Liquid Pigments in Green Pearl, Pink Pink Pearl and Gold Pearl plus our personal favourite, Shadow - a sheer blackening topcoat .

"The best way to describe this range is by relating it to makeup," Newman explained. "For example, you can use Shadow to take any colour down a shade or two or Highlight to make the nail pop."

Newman also reminded us that the real aim of this collection is to have fun "playing."

"The pigments are really for playing with and provide a veil of colour that changes in different light. While Texturise gives that perfect finish somewhere between matte and gloss," she added.

Whether you buy one polish or the whole set, Transformations is a nail collection worth investing in.

Nail Transformations is available from Mac stores nationwide and online at MacCosmetics.co.uk for £10 each from 3 July.
