A New York-based writer has revealed she earned £60 a week trawling a dating website for a "rich asshole" - dubbed Josh - seeking "thin, white, Jewish brunettes".
Meredith Haggerty - who wrote about her experience as a "dating surrogate" for website The Dater Report- explained how she would use Match.com to "scout for women, and five times a week send a PDF containing 10 photos and usernames to Josh."
Sounds like a pretty simple way to make a quick buck, but how on God's green earth do you find yourself in this line of work? A creepy Craigslist ad, of course!
In her article, Meredith revealed she'd stumbled across a blog on Batabead.combranding Josh the "world's biggest douchebag" and applied for the position as a joke.
The lazy dater described himself a "successful entrepreneur" looking for a "pretty, thin, educated female in her 20s or 30s" to help him comb through profiles and approach women as he was simply too busy.
To her surprise, Meredith landed the gig and promptly began her matchmaking duties. In the email accompanying her first PDF, Meredith explained how she referred to her findings as "nice ladies" and "impressive women", raving about their beauty and intellect.
But the gig didn't last long. Upon discovering mystery man Josh may have been married with children (she googled his address) she began to feel bad about pushing women towards him.
If there's a lesson we can all learn from this story it's not to respond to freaky ads on the internet.
