My Big Day: Jo And Jason

My Big Day: Jo And Jason

When Jo and Jason tied the knot last May, the couple wanted their wedding to be "a relaxed, fun day with all our friends and family there, great food, many laughs and lots of music and dancing."

Shot by Julie Kim Photography, the couple wed in an intimate ceremony at Stoke Newington Town Hall, followed by drinks, dinner and merry-making at The Prince Albert in Camden and sourced (almost) everything - from the bridal gown to the bouquet - from businesses local to them in North London.

The occasion gave fashion-savvy Jo the opportunity to add some colour to classic bridalwear. She accessorised her strapless white dress with origami-like details from Art Couture at Angelica Bridal in Islington with a show-stopping veiled Philip Treacy headpiece in turquoise, which was custom-made for her.

Scottish accents helped set the tone for the wedding - the couple met in Scotland and both the bride and groom have Scottish dads - with Jo using the colours of Jason's family-tartan kilt (green and red) and her favourite flower, the thistle, as the starting points for the day's colour scheme.

She also made the invitations, place settings, table numbers and decorations for the occasion, which helped cut costs and added a personal touch to the festivities.

Using their six-month engagement to organise the big day, the couple learned even when you're on top of budgeting and planning, things can go wrong (think dress delays to a disappearing DJ).

Jo and Jason also realised you don't need ages to pull it all together and six months is plenty of time to organise an incredible big day (they got the important venue-booking done within a week of their engagement).

"Everything takes much longer than you think it will but if you try to make key decisions quickly, lots of other things can then fall into place," says Jo.
