The Ralph Lauren Autumn/Winter 2014 New York Fashion Week catwalk started out all ultra-feminine with stunning, fit-for-the-red-carpet pastel palettes. This was the mainline collection.
Think lightweight luxe winter whites, greys and pinks across silk maxi slip dresses (strap, strapless and halter styles), tailored two-pieces and fabulous furs.
That was before the fleet of model gals (Karlie Kloss led the pack) strutted out in his contemporary Polo line: trouser suits, traditional tartans, leathers and beanies. Neon, berets and crisp white shirts worn with ties followed. Talk about a change of direction...
The alternative, edgier look proved that this season's Ralph Lauren lady is double-edged. She mixes in the floaty-feminine dresses (say, for the Oscars) but she also wears patchwork plaids and boho prints during the day.
