An official Royal family portrait to celebrate the arrival of Prince George has been delayed because great-grandfather Prince Philip is still resting after his recent health problems.
Prince George of Cambridge has yet to meet his great-grandad and parents William and Kate had hoped to bring all the generations of the family together for the formal photocall. But the meeting is now unlikely to happen for some weeks.
The next official gathering of the family will be in the autumn for Prince George's christening, which will take place in the music room at Buckingham Palace, where his father Prince William was baptised 31 years ago.
On Friday the Queen flew to Balmoral Castle alone for her annual summer holiday while the Duke of Edinburgh convalesces at Sandringham.
A royal source told the Mirror: "William would love nothing more than to see his grandfather and bring everyone together for an official photograph with Prince George.
"It will complete what has been such a happy time for him and Kate.
"Under normal circumstances a christening would have happened around three weeks after the birth.
"This would have allowed all the family to congregate under the same roof - and family photographs to have been taken.
"But George's birth has come right in the middle of the holiday season.
"The Royal Family are all in different parts of the country and for reasons and commitments beyond everyone's control it is difficult to arrange at the present time.
"It could be even as late as October before Philip and Prince George finally get to meet."
William is very close to his 92-year-old grandfather, who was admitted to the London Clinic in June for an exploratory operation on his abdomen where he remained in hospital for 11 days.
