Royal Baby News: £1 Million Bets On Baby Born On Thursday, July 11 2013

More than £1 million has been staked as Britain goes Royal baby bonkers, bookies have revealed.

Bookmakers William Hill revealed that tomorrow - Thursday, July 11 - is the day the majority of their customers now believe will be the date of the royal baby's birth.

"We have seen a flurry of activity in the last couple of days, the majority of which is for the baby to be born on Thursday this week," said William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams.

At Coral, one punter has even put a £5,000 bet on Kate having a girl, at odds of 4-5, which were set in March before recent speculation about the gender.

There has also been a fresh surge of bets ahead of Kate's due date on Saturday, including wagers on the name, weight of baby, the colour of its hair and when it will be born.

Coral's Nicola McGeady said: "Punters have gone Royal baby betting mad and we are taking bets on the new arrival every hour across the nation.

"Turnover has soared and in particular more and more female punters are coming through the doors or going online to make their predictions.

"If the money talks, then the newest heir to the throne will be a seven-pound brunette princess named Alexandra, born some time in the morning."

There has also been some considerable moves in what name the baby will be given, with Andrew being backed down from 33/1 to 16/1, he revealed. Harold is also in the frame and has been cut to 16/1 from 25/1 and Zac is now 25/1 from 100/1.

"We think Zac is a little trendy but we have seen quite a few bets so there might be something in this," said William Hill.
