Sweets that are good for you? Now there's something new.
Beauty Sweeties - a new range of sweets made with natural ingredients aimed at boosting the skin - have just hit Holland & Barrett stores.
The product is being aimed at "beauty conscious consumers" and will be available in three varieties - honeydew melon, cranberry and pink grapefruit. But there's more to these star-shaped gummies than a fruity flavour.
The beauty benefit is all down to three key ingredients - Coenzyme Q10, which is said to help with fighting signs of ageing at cellular level, aloe vera, used for treating skin inflammation and acne and Biotin, also called vitamin H, which can combat skin problems from rashes to psoriasis.
The sweets are also free from artificial colours or flavours, gelatine, gluten and lactose and are suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
Sounds too good to be true? Let's just says you'll need to be eating more than a packet of these if you really want a glowing complexion.
"Some of the ingredients in Beauty Sweeties have been shown to benefit skin health," says nutritionist for Holland & Barrett, Alex Thompson.
"If you're looking for an alternative to a traditional bag of sweets, they are an interesting choice. However, if you are looking to improve the appearance of your skin, you will need to look at your entire dietary intake as the levels in each pack aren't high enough for it to make a drastic difference in isolation."
Still, sweets that fight breakouts? It could catch on.
Beauty Sweeties will be available in 700 UK branches of Holland & Barrett from Monday 28th July, or online at www.hollandandbarrett.com priced at £1.99 for a 45g pack or £2.99 for a 100g pack.
