The news that Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon were heading for divorce after six years of marriage broke earlier this week, but it remained hearsay until Nick Cannon broke the couple's silence. He admitted to The Insider that there was "trouble in paradise" and that they had been living separately for a few months.
And now it seems that Mariah is so unhappy about Nick speaking up before they had prepared a joint statement that she's put a silence ban on her hubby.
According to The Mirrorthe pair have made a confidentiality agreement with their lawyers, and "Nick is banned from saying anything further about the split, and if he does, there are severe financial penalties for the presenter."
E! Newsconfirms that Mariah was upset by Nick's comments, with a source explaining: "Mariah was devastated about the comments Nick made to The Insider.
"They had agreed to work on a statement together. A joint statement was being prepared when he went and gave those quotes to The Insider."
A publicist for Mariah has also issued a statement, saying, "I am not commenting on Mariah's personal life, but Mariah is focusing on her children and her upcoming tour."
Though it's clear the pair are in agreement about doing what's best for their kids - three-year-old twins Monroe and Morocco - as when speaking to The Insider, Nick also said: "My main focus is my kids."
And Mariah has (sort of) broken her recent silence by posting a cute, but blurry snap of the twins to her Instagram, captioned "Friends forever!!!! #breakfastmoments."
